It appears that another manufacturer of defense equipment is raking it in in Iraq. This time it is a British company selling a device that most believe is totally useless.
The Iraqi forces are using a bomb detection device, a wand device called the ADE 651 , manufactured by ATSC Ltd.
The New York Times reports “The small hand-held wand, with a telescopic antenna on a swivel, is being used at hundreds of checkpoints in Iraq. But the device works “on the same principle as a Ouija board” — the power of suggestion — said a United States Air Force officer, Lt. Col. Hal Bidlack, who described the wand as nothing more than an explosives divining rod.”
“The American military does not use the devices. “I don’t believe there’s a magic wand that can detect explosives,” said Maj. Gen. Richard J. Rowe Jr., who oversees Iraqi police training for the American military. ..continue reading
This morning one of the leading stories is about a Northwest Airlines flight that left San Diego for Minneapolis but overshot the destination airport by 150 miles.
Traffic controllers lost contact with the aircraft that was flying at 37,000 feet for over an hour.
When finally contacted the pilots claimed that they were “distracted”. There is a suspicion that both pilots may have fallen asleep.
This report follows one yesterday that a Delta airliner bound from Rio de Janeiro to Atlanta ended up landing on a taxiway instead of the runway.
Probably just a coincidence but both airlines are part of Delta. Northwest Airlines is owned by Delta.
The crash in Buffalo earlier this year with 2 pilots of questionable training and skills should have set off a major warning bell to re-assess professional pilots.
I hope this is not the case but it seems that for every highly skilled Captain Sullenberger, who made an emergency ..continue reading
Lou Dobbs must be involved with this in some way.
Illegal alien customes are appearing in various stores and on the web for Halloween.
The custome includes a prison-like orange jumpsuit with the words “illegal alien” written on it in black type and an alien mask with a handlebar mustache. The package also comes with a fake Green Card.
Target pulled the custome off its shelves and website once it was made aware of it.
In typical fashion some believe that there is no problem with this.
“The only people getting upset are the hyper-sensitive, over-politically correct, pro-amnesty, illegal alien-supporting nuts,” said William Gheen, the president of Americans for Legal Immigration.
Many stores plan to continue selling the outfit and report brisk sales.
I just finished reading an article in the New York Times about sticker problems in NY State.
I thought I was the only one with this problem. I noticed that both the registration sticker and inspection sticker on one of my cars was peeling off the windshield. On another car the inspection sticker was also peeling off. I figured I must have been parking the cars in the sun and the heat made the stickers peel.
But the article indicates that the stickers bought by New York State from 2 different companies in Chicago (RR Donnelly and SecureMark Decal) are defective.
It appears to be a weird coincidence that both stickers made by two independent companies are both defective the same year.
Two million of the 9 million registration stickers for 2009 don’t stick and 2.5 million of the 13.5 inspection stickers also don’t stick.
Police departments across the State have been asked to be ..continue reading
Credit card companies are in full “get all the money now” mode before the new credit card rules take affect in February.
I just saw a report on CNN about a couple who have perfect credit and have a credit card from Chase. Chase decided to more then double their minimum monthly payment requirement which for them went from about $400/month to over $900/month. When they called Chase to find out what could be done they were told that their payments could be reduced but only if their rate increased. Chase already increased the rates when they increased the monthly minimums.
Some Chase credit card users report that their rate has increased to between 27% and 39%.
What these credit cards are doing is legal but should be criminal.
The government needs to step in immediately and put an end to these practices. Citizens can not wait until February for relief.
It is easy to ..continue reading
