Smacking your kids is OK

according to a study by Marjorie Gunnoe, professor of Psychology at Calvin College in Michigan.

Gunnoe questioned 2600 participants for the study and found that children who are smacked before the age of six perform better at school when they are teenagers. They are also more likely to do voluntary work and to want to go to college than those who have never been physically disciplined. But the study also revealed that children who are smacked after the age of six were more likely to exhibit behavioural problems, such as being involved in fights.

Penelope Leach, a parenting expert disagrees with the findings ’No good can come from hitting a child,’ she said. “I do not buy this idea that children will learn positive behavior from being smacked. The law says adults hitting adults is wrong and children should be protected in the same way. Children are people too.”

Right on. Keep your hands off the kids.

Something in the food in India must be an aphrodisiac.

Maybe it should be added to the health care reform bill as a staple for seniors to keep them well and out of the hospitals.

It is also nice to see that American politicians don’t have a monopoly when it comes to sex scandals.

The 86-year-old governor of a southern Indian state resigned, a day after a television news channel broadcast a tape allegedly showing him in bed with three women. Gov. Narain Dutt Tiwari quit after the tape showing him in bed with three women was broadcast Friday. He quit citing health reasons. Maybe he had that problem mentioned in the Viagra and Cialis commercials. It lasted more than 4 hours :-)

According to the report the three women were brought to Hyderabad by another woman who was allegedly promised a mining lease by the governor in return for sexual favors. The woman ..continue reading

Women under siege

What has happened to women’s rights and equality these days?

Every day there seems to be a story about the infringement on women’s rights.

Several weeks ago Al Franken introduced an amendment to assure the victims of rape (predominately women) are afforded the right to take legal action against their defense contract employers. The Senate Republicans were outraged that these contractors could be held accountable. They were more interested in protecting these corporations instead of protecting women from sexual assault.

Then the health care reform raged in recent weeks with the right of women to have insurance coverage for abortions as one of the key obstacles. It was also the final obstacle from Senator Ben Nelson Democrat of Nebraska who had to be assured that the government would not provide funds for abortions.

And then to add insult to injury Maj. Gen. Anthony Cucolo, the general in charge of 22,000 U.S. troops northern Iraq, announced this week that getting pregnant ..continue reading

The Tiger Woods fiasco

The trash media in this country needs to build up celebrities so that they can tear them down.

When the story broke that Tiger Woods left his Florida home in his SUV and proceeded to hit a fire hydrant and then a tree at 2:30 AM, it was only a matter of time (probably minutes if not seconds) before the stories began to appear on the Internet.

Tiger’s private life, which he worked at keeping private, was to become public and not by choice.

The latest tale is that his wife Elin was incensed after a story appeared in the National Inquirer that Woods was having an affair with a New York City hostess, Rachel Uchitel. According to the rumors Elin chased Woods out of the house with a golf club.

Uchitel denies the affair and said she met Woods twice and has not seen him since. She also stated that she offered to ..continue reading

This site has been too politicized

Thursday, November 19th, 2009   8:19 am | Author: classicbrew | Economy, Education, Entertainment/Sports, Environment, Food, Health/Medical, Life, Money, Pets/Animals, Politics/Government, Relationships, Religion, Services/Products, Technology, Work/Employment | 2 Comments

Talking about something that is annoying… The constant barrage of anti-Republican and highly political messages here! Don’t get me wrong. I don’t like the GOP… I don’t like Sarah Palin but it would be nice to see basic annoying topics here like…. Shoe laces that never stay tied or the call procedures at the DMV.. I’ve been a member of this site for 6 months and joined because I loved the inane annoyances.. For political banter I can go to CNN.com, the Onion, The SmirkingChimp, Buzzflash, NewsMax…. and the list goes on… Leave politics where they belong.. on their own trashy sites….
