Is Maria Bartiromo really that uninformed?

As a private investor I watch MSNBC from time to time. I always found Maria Bartiromo, who has been with the financial channel for years, to be well educated and fairly knowledgeable about the financial markets. or at least that is what I thought.
Yesterday she was on a show discussing health care reform. Medicare came up in the discussion. She tried to point out that Medicare is not a good health plan. She then turned to Congressman Anthony Weiner of NY and thought she had him cornered with the question of why he was not on the plan if it was so good. The problem is that Weiner is 44 and Medicare is only available to those 65 and over.
This exchange points out how uninformed, even supposedly educated people are about Medicare, a government program that is highly valued by the majority of seniors. The other thing that is not clear to the majority of Americans is that the public option that is being discussed would be the equivalent of allowing those under 65 to have an option to get in on a Medicare type plan.
The problems are that the Democrats have not done a good job of explaining the pending reform and the Republicans are misleading people about the public option and reform in general.
