Another congressman promotes hate talk radio

Rep. John Culberson (R-TX) is a big fan of Michael Savage and his hate talk radio show. Savage had been banned from traveling to Britain and Culberson decided to throw in his support to try to get the ban lifted.
As noted on thinkprogress Culberson appeared on Savage’s talk show and if you didn’t know any better you would think this was some sort of love fest.
SAVAGE: You’re the most honest member of Congress I’ve ever encountered. You’re the kind of guy that won World War 2. You’re the kind of guy that if you were my platoon leader and you said charge into a machine gun nest I would do what you told me to do. I’d be proud to fight alongside you any day of the week. But I’d like to do something for you. I don’t wanna be just be passive about accepting your kindness.
CULBERSON: You’re very gracious but you do it every day by being a warrior for freedom and standing up for our rights as Americans.
For those who may not know some of Savage’s finer works here is a summary:
-A “conversation” with a caller to his show ”Oh, you’re one of the sodomites,” Savage said. “You should only get AIDS and die, you pig. How’s that? Why don’t you see if you can sue me, you pig. You got nothing better than to put me down, you piece of garbage. You have got nothing to do today, go eat a sausage and choke on it.”
-Referring to Mellisa Etheridge Savage said ”I don’t like a woman married to a woman,” Savage railed. “It makes me want to puke.” As for children raised by two women, Savage said, “I think it’s child abuse.”
-Savage blaming gays for all of the world’s problems “Don’t you understand what’s a stake? …Don’t you understand the sick perverts [homosexuals] are killing all of us? …unless this is stopped, unless the gay agenda is curtailed… you’re not gonna have your own children eventually… your father would have taken a day off from pipe fitting and he would have gone in there with blood in his eyes… he would have gone crazy! …That’s how deballed you are, you’re like a department store dummy most of you.”
-Savage attacking the ACLU and Jewish lawyers for defending free speech “Only… an outright ban on Muslim immigration, laws making the dissemination of enemy propaganda illegal, and the uncoupling of the liberal ACLU can save the United States. I would also make the construction of Mosques illegal in America, and the speaking of English only in the streets of the United States…. I truly believe that is a prescription for survival…” Immigrants are “not assimilating. They’re not going on to become Americans… they’re going on the hate this country. They’re going on to hate the language. They’re going on to spit on the culture. That’s a reality.”
- Savage on Liberals “Liberalism is, in essence, the HIV virus, and it weakens the defense cells of a nation. What are the defense cells of a nation? Well, the church. They’ve attacked particularly the Catholic Church for 30 straight years. The police, attacked for the last 50 straight years by the ACLU viruses. And the military, attacked for the last 50 years by the Barbara Boxer viruses on our planet.”
It just goes on and on. A book can be written containing Savage’s hate speeches.
Savage stands as a role model for today’s Republican party. As Rep. Culberson stated to Savage you are “a warrior for freedom and standing up for our rights as Americans.”
