Trial and conviction by the media

Last week Amanda Knox was found guilty of murdering her British roommate in Italy where both were students.

Many believe that Knox was unjustly convicted based on the incessant negative media coverage she received in Italy and in other European nations.

We have the equivalent problem here and one of the main perpetrators of conviction by media is Nancy Grace.

Grace believes anyone accused of a crime is guilty, until proved innocent.

Dr. Harold J. Bursztajn, a clinical professor of psychiatry at Harvard issued a filing in support of a family that is pursuing a wrongful death suit.

In the filing he claims that CNN Headline News host Nancy Grace’s relentless questioning of a Florida mother three years ago contributed to her suicide.

Grace launched aggressive nightly coverage of 2-year-old Trenton Duckett’s case shortly after he disappeared in 2006.The professor saw “a distraught young woman who is subject to repeated and increasingly sharp questioning by a hostile interviewer who displays increasing suspicion and anger towards Ms. Duckett. Her apparently unanticipated public humiliation on the nationally televised program in question was a substantial contributing cause of her suicide.”

Duckett, who was 21,  committed suicide by shooting herself.

Trenton has not been found and Duckett still remains the suspect.

We may never know what happened to Trenton and if Duckett was guilty but Nancy Grace is doing a disservice to the legal system in this country.

Grace is a self-serving shark. She seems to believe that because her fiance was murdered in 1979 everyone she comes across who has any association with a crime victim is automatically guilty.
