Time for Obama to take charge

President Obama has let the health care reform legislation process get out of hand.
It is time for the President to show leadership and take control of the situation.
The Republicans have stood in the way of reform from day one. It was obvious from the onset that they will not sign on to any bill.
The Democrats in the Senate have modified their version of the bill over and over again to accommodate the blue dog Democrats and the one or two Republicans and the hold-out Independent to reach the required 60 votes to move it along.
In their attempt for gaining these votes the Democrats have given up the major reasons for health care reform. First they dropped the public option, then they dropped the Medicare buy-in. What is left is a watered down bill that delivers an additional 30 million uninsured Americans to the Insurance industry without effective control over the industry which was one of the key reasons for reform.
It is time for Obama to step in and restore the public option and make this true reform. If the 60 votes are not there the next move should be reconciliation which would allow a majority of 51 votes to get reform moving.
It is time to leave the Republicans behind, it is time to leave the blue dog Democrats behind, it is time to leave the one pseudo Democrat supposedly Independent behind.
If the current version of the bill passes many Democrats will be voted out by the progressives in 2010. If a bill passes with a public option or at least a Medicare buy-in passes and some Democrats are voted out in 2010 by conservative Democrats at least they can hold their heads up high and say they did the right thing.
What has happened in this country since this summer has been a disgrace. The Republicans have proved themselves to be completely worthless and the Democrats are weak and ineffectual.
It is time for Obama to call in the Democrats one more time and do the right thing.
The nonsense will not stop with health care reform if Obama does not act here. Every measure that will come up for a vote will meet the same fate unless Obama shows that he will not stand for any more of this obstruction.
