A sad story on Thanksgiving day. A report released in May of 2009 details 70 years of child abuse allegations by the Church in Ireland.
A New York Times article today explains that “The Archdiocese of Dublin and other Catholic Church authorities covered up clerical child abuse until the mid-1990s”.
“The Dublin Archdiocese’s pre-occupations in dealing with cases of child sexual abuse, at least until the mid 1990s, were the maintenance of secrecy, the avoidance of scandal, the protection of the reputation of the Church, and the preservation of its assets,” the report said.
“The welfare of children, which should have been the first priority, was not even a factor to be considered in the early stages,” it said.
Archbishop Diarmuid Martin apologized Thursday in a news conference. “No words of apology can be sufficient,” he said.
The report states that “… it is abundantly clear … that child ..continue reading
The Catholic Archdiocese of Washington has decided to wage war against Washington DC.
According to the Washington Post the DC City Council is to vote next month on legalizing same sex marriages.
The Church responded today by threatening to cut off charitable and social services in the DC area, “a threat that could affect tens of thousands of people the church helps with adoption, homelessness and health care.”
“Fearful that they could be forced, among other things, to extend employee benefits to same-sex married couples, church officials said they would have no choice but to abandon their contracts with the city.”
“The standoff appears to be among the harshest between a government and a faith-based group over the rights of same-sex couples. Advocates for same-sex couples said they could not immediately think of other places where a same-sex marriage law had set off a break with a major faith-based provider of social services.”
It is time ..continue reading

Several months ago I read a post here about Pastor Anderson of Arizona who is praying for Obama to die.
Today I read an article on rawstory.com about a church near Asheville North Carolina that is planning a book burning get together on Halloween.
I called my relatives in Asheville and asked if they heard of this Church and its Pastor Marc Grizzard. They did not know the church or its pastor but heard this story on the local news.
Grizzard is planning to burn anything and everything he can get his hands on.
The church’s website states that the plan is to burn “Satan’s bibles including Good News for Modern Man, The Evidence Bible, The Message Bible, The Green Bible and others” because they are “perversions of God’s word”.
And just in case that is not enough the burning fest will also include the burning of “Satan’s music such as country , rap ..continue reading

Before his death, Ted Kennedy, sent a sealed note to the Pope via President Obama in July. Most likely the note asked the Pope for his blessing.
To date the Pope has been silent and has not publicly commented on Kennedy’s death or his achievements.
There has been friction between the Kennedys and the Church for many years. Ted Kennedy’s positions on abortions, stem cell research, gay marriage, etc. were in direct opposition to the teachings of the Church. However Kennedy was the Country’s leading Roman Catholic politician for decades.
When his sister Eunice was dying the Pope had sent a message that he was praying for her. Why could he not do the same for Ted Kennedy?
Kennedy’s faults are well documented. But when his contributions to those most in need in this Country are assessed as compared to the Church’s contributions to those same individuals during the same period one must question ..continue reading
Today California’s high court showed the stupidity that still exists in this country. They voted 6-1 to uphold the ban on same sex marriage but allowed the 18,000 marriages previously performed to stand. Now the banana republic of California has instituted two classes of citizens. Those who married before the decision and those who can not marry because of this misguided ruling. The Mormon Church and others must be very proud to have denied people their freedom.
