Ripping off the Homeless

and the good samariitans who donate on the streets of New York.


The United Homeless Organization (UHO),  a nonprofit group set up to help feed and house the homeless, is an elaborate fraud.


The group’s founder and president, Stephen Riley, and its director, Myra Walker, set up a scheme whereby they charge a daily fee for the folding tables and UHO materials and coin jars to street peddlers who then collect money and pocket most of the money with the remainder going back to Riley and Walker.


The NYT indicated that Riley and Walker have spent the money to pay bills at, Toys “R” Us, P. C. Richard, Bed, Bath & Beyond, and premium cable and electricity bills at their homes.


The Homeless are probably not receiving anything from these collections.


NYS Attorney General Andrew Cuomo filed a lawsuit against the organization and stated “U.H.O. exploits the good intentions of people who thought that their charitable donations were helping ..continue reading

Obama and NY Governor Patterson

NYS Governor David Patterson moved into his position not by election but by succession. When Eliot Spitzer resigned in March 2008 because of his sex scandal, Patterson, then Lt. Governor became Governor.


Things have not gone well for the Governor and that latest poll numbers show that he will most likely lose the election in 2010. only 20% of NY voters approve of Patterson’s performance and 70% of NY voters believe he is not a viable candidate in 2010, including 65% of Democrats.


In contract Andrew Cuomo’s (Attorney General) job approval rating is 69%. 67% of NY voters believe he should run for Governor, including 77% Democrats.


Governor Patterson did not help himself by his treatment of Caroline Kennedy when she was considering replacing Hillary Clinton as a NY Senator. His selection of Kristen Gillibrand to replace Clinton stunned many and did not sit well because of her positions on some issues.
