Time for Obama to take charge

President Obama has let the health care reform legislation process get out of hand.

It is time for the President to show leadership and take control of the situation.

The Republicans have stood in the way of reform from day one. It was obvious from the onset that they will not sign on to any bill.

The Democrats in the Senate have modified their version of the bill over and over again to accommodate the blue dog Democrats and the one or two Republicans and the hold-out Independent to reach the required 60 votes to move it along.

In their attempt for gaining these votes the Democrats have given up the major reasons for health care reform. First they dropped the public option, then they dropped the Medicare buy-in. What is left is a watered down bill that delivers an additional 30 million uninsured Americans to the Insurance industry without effective control over the industry which ..continue reading

The 2010 nightmare

Newt Gingrich has introduced us to the nightmare scenario for 2010. Government for the rich, all others be damned.

Gingrich is introducing the new Republican position “Reversion”. The aim is to undo anything that the Democrats pass before the 2010 elections, assuming the Republicans retake control.

thinkprogress reports that yesterday Gingrich said

“If the left manages to drive through a bill which is opposed by 65 percent of the country on health care, our commitment should be simple — when we get a majority, we’re repealing the whole thing.”

“And I want every Democrat who is about to sacrifice their seat for socialized medicine to understand: after you lose your seat, you’re going to lose the socialized medicine too.”

Just in case that is not enough of a wake up call for Republicans Gingrich threw in the Republican fallback position. Scare the hell out of them.

He ..continue reading

Is this really a Democrat?

We know that Lieberman is not a Democrat and doesn’t even look like an Independent.

But Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) and Mary Landrieu (D-LA)  and a few other Democrats are a disappointment to the majority of Americans. They are more concerned with being re-elected than doing the right thing for the people of their States and the people of this Country. The majority of Americans want health care reform and want a public option. That doesn’t appear to be sinking in with these Democrats.

Lincoln (and Landrieu) finally gave in and agreed to vote for the debate in the Senate. This provides the Democrats with the 60 needed votes to move ahead.

It is stunning that any Democrat and truthfully many moderate Republicans would vote against having a debate about health care reform. We are talking about a debate not the final vote. If these people can not communicate and interact they should not be representing the ..continue reading

2 loses one win

It was not a great night for the good guys last night.

But it was not nearly as bad as some of the wingnuts would like people to believe.

In Virgina Bob McDonnell (R) defeated Creigh Deeds (D) 59% to 41%. Few expected Deeds to win this race and although it can be viewed as a loss for the Democrats it may not mean much in the big picture.

The loss by Jon Corzine (D) to Chris Christie (R) in New Jersey (49% to 44%) is a bigger problem for the Democrats. Although New Jersey has voted for Republican governors in the past it is considered to be a blue state.

The key to both of these losses is the economy and jobs.

The highly publicized Congressional race in NY in District 23 is in many ways more significant than the other two major races.

This race won by Bill Owens (D) defeating conservative Doug Hoffman(R) 49% to 46% ..continue reading
