New Poll: Republicans love Cheney, Not

The Washington Post reported that in its most recent poll of over 800 random Republicans and Republican leaning participants “Just 1 percent pick George W. Bush as the best reflection of the party’s principles, and only a single person in the poll cites former vice president Richard B. Cheney. About seven in 10 say Bush bears at least “some” of the blame for the party’s problems.”

The poll also notes the following:

“Fewer than half of the Republicans and Republican-leaners surveyed by The Washington Post see the party’s leadership as taking the GOP in the “right direction,” down sharply from this time four years ago. About four in 10 are dissatisfied with the policy proposals being offered by congressional Republicans, and similar numbers see the current crop of GOP legislators as out of touch with their problems and personal values. Nearly a third say the Republicans in Congress are not ..continue reading

Looks like bipartisanship is dead

The tea party crazies are making sure that bipartisanship is dead, no matter what the issue is.

thinkprogress posted that “the Charleston County Republican Party’s executive committee “took the unusual step” of officially censuring Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC). The local GOP committee admonished Graham for stepping across party lines to work with Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) on a bipartisan clean energy bill and other pieces of legislation. The censure stated that Graham’s “bipartisanship continues to weaken the Republican brand and tarnish the ideals of freedom.”

So much for all the whining by Republicans that the Democrats would not reach across the aisle to work with them on health care reform or anything else.

It is the right wingnuts who are now calling the shots. Bipartisanship is a foreign concept to them.

As with health care reform when the insurance industry stirred up crowds for their own benefit the coal and oil industry is now stirring up crowds ..continue reading

Right wingers win one

Score one for right wingers and conservatives.

The GOP selected candidate Republican Dede Scozzafava dropped out of New York’s 23rd District race after staunch right wingers backed conservative candidate Doug Hoffman. Scozzafava was backed by the National Republican Congressional Committee and the Republican National Committee because they felt her moderate views would appeal to centrist Republicans, independents, and even some Democrats. The NRCC and NRC immediately backed Hoffman upon Scozzafava’s announcement.

A month ago NRCC spokesman Paul Lindsay said that Scozzafava was the right candidate, who was picked by the local party leaders and had an appeal to the district’s voters.Lindsay also added ”Fortunately, the local Republican county chairs had the foresight to see that Doug Hoffman lacked the integrity and qualities needed to be elected to anything — let alone Congress.” It appears that the NRCC is willing to overlook his lack of integrity and qualifications now.

Conservatives including Sarah Palin, Dick Armey and many others supported Hoffman ..continue reading

The party of NOs’ Dr. NO

The NYT has an article about Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) who is known as Dr. No for his negative votes on almost every bill.

While many who take responsibility have signs over their desks that says “The buck stops here”, the sign over Coburn’s desk says “NO”.

He is a family physician and can’t wait to vote no on Health Care Reform.

According to the Times Coburn says “I’ve always considered myself an opposition within the opposition”.  ”[His] willingness to block, delay or neuter bills through an array of procedural measures has made him an effective nuisance during his five years in the Senate.”

Coburn continues ““My mission is to frame this health care debate in terms of the fiscal ruin of this country”.

“Jim Manley, a spokesman for the Senate majority leader, Harry Reid of Nevada, said: “Senator Coburn relishes it when people call him Dr. No, but he is more appropriately called Dr. I Know Best. He has ..continue reading

AARP the new ACORN

The GOP has a new target in its crosshairs and it is the AARP.

Look out seniors. Scare tactics will be in full bloom just in time for Halloween.

According to talkingpointsmemo this past Monday “Republican leaders say AARP is supporting changes to the Medicare system included in Democratic health care reform bills because they would result in more sales of AARP-branded insurance. They claim that “backroom deals” between executives of the AARP and Democratic leadership — deals the GOP say are designed to protect the executives’ high salaries — led to the group’s pro-Medicare reform rhetoric.”

Now all the right wing talking heads have picked up the ball and are running with it.

“Michelle Malkin retweeted the House GOP talking points on the topic and Human Events published a story echoing the GOP claims. Malkin and the conservative magazine focused on the corruption message, highlighting the “back-room” dealing.”

The GOP seems to be following the same method of operation as ..continue reading
