During my 8 hour shift driving a NYC taxi I usually cover much of Manhattan and sometimes parts of the other 4 boroughs. I meet some very interesting people and have some great stories to tell.
Last week I picked up a man in mid-town Manhattan. He was well dressed and carried a large suitcase. He asked me to drive him to Queens, a half hour ride. We talked and he told me that he came over from England a couple of years ago and has worked in the retail business.
We arrived at his destination and he thanked me but said that he had no money to pay for the fare but can pay me in pants, at the wholesale price. He figured that the fare was equal to 1 pair of jeans, but he would make it 2 to cover the tip. I didn’t know what to say. He asked my ..continue reading
