Why is it that politicians don’t think before they open their mouths? What is actually worse it the latent racism that exists even in those who claim that they are not racist.
The latest victim of this is Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader.
In a recently released book, “Game Change”, by Journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, Reid said privately that Obama, as a black candidate, could be successful thanks, in part, to his “light-skinned” appearance and speaking patterns “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.”
Reid, who is facing a tough re-election bid, immediately apologized to President Obama, who accepted the apology without question.
In his apology statement Reid also said
“I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African Americans for my improper comments.”
“I was a proud and enthusiastic supporter of Barack Obama during the campaign and have worked as hard as I can to advance President Obama’s ..continue reading
Republicans and conservatives always claim that they own the rights to certain words.
In recent years it was security, homeland defense and patriotism. The Republicans wanted Americans to believe that they know more about these, they are the only ones who understand these.
Of course this is pure bull.
Now their latest word game is terrorism, terrorists, war on terror and counterterrorism.
They have been pounding Obama since the attempted airline attack on Christmas Day. Obama can not bring himself to say the word terrorism, does not believe in the war on terror and on and on.
They are using the same tactics they used for months in lying to Americans about health care reform.
Repeat the lies over and over again and more and more people will believe it is true.
Unfortunately this is the truth in this country. Especially for those who depend on Fox news for their information.
The reality is that President Obama has ..continue reading
Over the last few days we heard from many Republicans how Obama is responsible for the attempted attack on the airliner on Christmas day.
Some of the most vocal, hypocritical attacks on Obama are from those Bush dummies, Rove and Cheney.
The other day Rove appearing on Hannity’s show said “Look, they woke him up immediately to tell him he won the Nobel Prize but couldn’t bother to interrupt his vacation for three hours to tell him a terrorist tried to bring down a plane on Christmas Day. And the President waits 72 hours before we hear from him, and it’s over 72 hours from the time of the incident to the time that the President spoke today, and then the President said some things that are simply not true.”
First Obama was briefed immediately when it was apparent that this was an attack and more importantly Rove must have a very short term ..continue reading
don’t hold your breath.
The administration found $19 billion in cost savings by making cuts to contracting services and consolidating purchase contracts.
By modifying and consolidating purchasing contracts the Department of Homeland Security will save more than $87 million. The cuts will be made at every agency according OMB Deputy Director for Management Jeff Zients.
The Office of Management and Budget outlined some of the cuts and announced the government will create an online “dashboard” so taxpayers can gauge whether agencies are meeting their goals.
talkingpointsmemo reports that “The Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) is using more online tools such as one that’s like eBay and will save $73 million.”
“Contractors enter prices until the bid ‘auction’ ends with the selection of the lowest-price contractor. As eBay allows bidders to enter a higher price for an item if they are outbid, a contractor can revise its bid if another firm offers a lower ..continue reading
President Obama has let the health care reform legislation process get out of hand.
It is time for the President to show leadership and take control of the situation.
The Republicans have stood in the way of reform from day one. It was obvious from the onset that they will not sign on to any bill.
The Democrats in the Senate have modified their version of the bill over and over again to accommodate the blue dog Democrats and the one or two Republicans and the hold-out Independent to reach the required 60 votes to move it along.
In their attempt for gaining these votes the Democrats have given up the major reasons for health care reform. First they dropped the public option, then they dropped the Medicare buy-in. What is left is a watered down bill that delivers an additional 30 million uninsured Americans to the Insurance industry without effective control over the industry which ..continue reading
