I see daily barrages of how Republicans, Democrats and Obama are not doing what they promised or are not fulfilling their jobs to their full ethical extent. I have to say that Partisan politics are irrelevant and both parties really suck at everything they do. We must wake up and quit expecting someone else to solve our problems. It’s time for some common sense and basic values so we can start the hard work and diligence it will take to pick up the broken pieces of our economy, government, etc….

I am not sure how I feel about the latest decision from a Federal Appeals court.
It ruled that the government can not restrict the amount of money used by a non-profit groups or political committees in support of specific candidates as long as their is no co-ordination with the candidates or specific political parties.
What this means is that groups like the Swift Boat Veterans on the right and Moveon.org on the left can spend as much as they like to support candidates.
This is nothing more then a loophole to allow unlimited donations by wealthy individuals, something they are legally prohibited from providing directly to the candidates.
As long as these special interest groups can raise equal amounts to support their candidates/positions they sort of cancel each other out. But once one side is capable of pulling in more money for a candidate the playing field is no longer level.

This piece, from the Baltimore Sun (Aug. 12, Opinion), presents an analysis of the sociology of the mob, and suggests similarities between pre-take-over Germany and US anti-health care reform mobs today. It looks to Hannah Arendt’s The Origins of Totalitarianism for insights into both these new American mobs and the mass society from which they arise.

Mob rule takes over the health debate
By Paul R. Grenier
August 12, 2009
According to press reports, certain demonstrators, enraged that Congress wants to reform America’s dysfunctional health insurance system, have adopted the tactics of the mob. These tactics have taken the form of brawls at town hall meetings, the hanging of a congressman in effigy, even threats.
It would be easy to simply dismiss the perpetrators of these ugly incidents, to label them fools and scoundrels manipulated by corporate elites and right-wing lobby groups. But that would only prompt those who label these same groups ..continue reading

Congress is in the process of considering a new consumer protection agency to protect the consumer from deceptive and complex loans that many financial institutions currently provide.
As expected the financial industry is not too happy. What will they do if they can’t dupe the unsophisticated consumer into signing for loans without understanding the fine print?
The financial industry and their lobbyists are resorting to the what we have all become accustomed to: scare tactics. They are protesting that any changes will have disastrous consequences for the economy. Credit would freeze again, consumer now eligible for credit will not get it and more.
They have a powerful lobbying group and spent almost $400 million on lobbyists within the last year to fight any changes.
As with health care reform, gun control and other important issues facing the American public, the special interest and corporate lobbying is making it extremely difficult to get a level playing ..continue reading

not that Cheney but his daughter Liz said she may very well consider it in the future. She is currently too busy helping her father write ( I mean lie his way through) his memoirs.
Haven’t we had enough of the Bushs, Cheneys, Palins and Bachmanns for at least a lifetime?
Liz Cheney is in the mold of her father. She stated that her father did not say there was a connection between Saddam Hussein and 9/11. He clearly did on on several occasions. She also stated on national television that Obama is unwilling to say “I believe in American Execptionalism”. Which is an outright lie. She claimed that Bush did not say that Gitmo detainees should be tried in the US. Which of course he did.
We really need another lying Cheney to run for office.
