Why is it that politicians don’t think before they open their mouths? What is actually worse it the latent racism that exists even in those who claim that they are not racist.
The latest victim of this is Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader.
In a recently released book, “Game Change”, by Journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, Reid said privately that Obama, as a black candidate, could be successful thanks, in part, to his “light-skinned” appearance and speaking patterns “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.”
Reid, who is facing a tough re-election bid, immediately apologized to President Obama, who accepted the apology without question.
In his apology statement Reid also said
“I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African Americans for my improper comments.”
“I was a proud and enthusiastic supporter of Barack Obama during the campaign and have worked as hard as I can to advance President Obama’s ..continue reading
Unfortunately racism appears again. This time related to the winner of the NYC marathon.
There is an article in the New York Times about Mebrahtom Keflezighi, the men’s winner of this year’s NYC Marathon.
Several blogs and even some MSM pundits have questioned if Keflezighi is actually an American.
Keflezighi was an immigrant who came here when he was 12. He is an American citizen and has lived here for 22 years. As the Times points out he is ”a product of American distance running programs at the youth, college and professional levels.”

You may expect this in the South, but in Norwalk Connecticut?
A Bishop from Stamford Connecticut stood up to ask a question at a town hall meeting. His question related to the loss of health care coverage when losing a job. He asked the question in Spanish because that is his native language and he knew that Representative Jim Himes who ran the town hall meeting is fluent in Spanish. Himes translated the Bishop’s question before answering it.
Again it is evident that these people do not want civil discussions about health care reform. Racism is just another element of who they are.
Microsoft ran an advertisement on its Polish website that included three people. They ran the same ad in the states in which one of the people was African-American. In the Polish version the head of the African-American was replaced by a white man’s head.
Microsoft stated that is was “a marketing mistake. We apologized, fixed the error and we are looking into how it happened.”
