Using the failed terror attack to do fundraising

It looks like Pete Hoekstra  (R-MI) and Al Qeada have something in common. Both are trying to use the Christmas day attempted terror attack on the Northwest airliner to gain followers and do some fund-raising.

Hoekstra is about as close as you can get to pure slime. He uses every opportunity to attack Obama and his administration. He talks about bi-partisanship in the same breath as launching a partisan attack on Obama, liberals, Democrats and anyone else who doesn’t agree with him.

following is the text of his fundraising letter obtained by the Grand Rapids Press:

December 28, 2009

Dear Friend:

We don’t have much time, so I will get right to the point.

In the midst of enjoying Christmas with my family, we were quickly reminded that there is still a war against the American way of life; on Christmas morning, it came right here to Detroit.

We know the story. A cowardly terrorist was allowed ..continue reading

Frank Luntz, Republican consultant and liar

Mediamatters indicated the Frank Luntz, longtime Republican strategist and consultant appeared on ABC’s This Week program and told George Stephanopoulos that  voters in Indiana, Nebraska, and Arkansas “do not want” health care reform because of “the cost to the deficit.”

Luntz is just following the standard mode of operation for Republicans these days: lying.

In a poll conducted October 27-28  56 percent of Arkansas residents support a public option.

In a poll conducted October 24-25  52 percent of Indiana residents support “the government offering everyone a government administered health insurance plan.”

In a poll conducted October 29-30 Nebraskans are split on the public option. When asked if they favored or opposed “the government offering everyone a government administered health insurance plan”  46 percent favored such a plan, while 44 percent opposed it.

“Contrary to Luntz’s claim that health care reform will increase the deficit, the Congressional Budget Office found that the House health care reform bill, the Affordable Health Care for America ..continue reading

GOP health bill: smoke and mirrors

The GOP released its version of a health care reform bill and as expected is its nothing more than smoke and mirrors.

Basically it would legalize the insurance companies’ continued profit making at the expense of the insured.

As thinkprogress posted yesterday

“Under the Republican proposal, the insurer can choose a ‘primary state’ “whose covered laws shall govern the health insurance issuer” and can change states “upon renewal of the policy.” Page 129 requires a “health insurance issuer” to “provide the following notice” informing consumers in so-called ’secondary states’ that the policy is “not subject to all of the consumer protection laws or restrictions on rate changes of the state.” Here is the notice, as it is described in the legislation:”

Killing the Republican Party, Part 2

The conservatives are preparing to do a victory dance while the remainder of the Republican party is preparing for its biggest nightmare.

After the 2006 and 2008 elections the Republican party seems to be imploding.

The fringe right wingers are taking over the Republican party and its targets are now their own.

The denials of the GOP that the Limbaughs and Becks are the true leaders and drivers of the party appear to be nothing but lies.

This week the conservative Doug Hoffman, running for the hotly contested District 23 seat in NY,  basically bowed to Glenn Beck calling him his mentor. He previously told Beck “I do believe that our founding fathers envisioned that normal people would go to Washington to represent us, and I think it’s time for people like you and me to stand up and do something about it.” and “I’m a member of the 9/12 group” the Beck inspired ..continue reading

Krugman nails it

Paul Krugman’s column in the NY Times this morning makes some salient points about what has happened to the Republican party.

His column starts with the Right’s latest Obama bashing related to the Olympics. The Right’s cheering that the US lost is an indication of the hatred of Obama. Rush Limbaugh said he was “gleeful” by the loss. Krugman says the reaction indicates that “…  the modern Republican Party, has the emotional maturity of a bratty 13-year-old.”

Here is Limbaugh’s reaction (it is about 30 seconds into the video):

Krugman continues “ the guiding principle of one of our nation’s two great political parties is spite pure and simple. If Republicans think something might be good for the president, they’re against it — whether or not it’s good for America.”

On health care reform Krugman notes “For the main G.O.P. line of attack is the ..continue reading
