The chorus of lying Republicans

Some two bit right wing blogger named Michael Godfarb made up a story a few days ago that the Obama administration threatened to close an Air force base in Nebraska if Ben Nelson (D-NE) did not vote for health care reform.

Goldfarb could not produce any credible evidence but that didn’t stop Republicans in Congress from calling this one of the most outrageous acts they have ever seen. I guess Bush/Cheney lying us into a war is nothing compared to his unsubstantiated rumor.

thinkprogress reports that Republicans are up in arms about this nonsense. Ben Nelson immediately denied this as “yellow journalism at its worst” adding that this is from “inside-the-Beltway partisans who only want to derail health care reform.”

But the Republicans hammered away

SEN. KIT BOND (R-MO): “The rumors out there, we haven’t confirmed it, but the rumor keeps coming back that he’s threatened to close a major air base in Nebraska. It is total blackmail. It’s the worst kind of ..continue reading

Time for Obama to take charge

President Obama has let the health care reform legislation process get out of hand.

It is time for the President to show leadership and take control of the situation.

The Republicans have stood in the way of reform from day one. It was obvious from the onset that they will not sign on to any bill.

The Democrats in the Senate have modified their version of the bill over and over again to accommodate the blue dog Democrats and the one or two Republicans and the hold-out Independent to reach the required 60 votes to move it along.

In their attempt for gaining these votes the Democrats have given up the major reasons for health care reform. First they dropped the public option, then they dropped the Medicare buy-in. What is left is a watered down bill that delivers an additional 30 million uninsured Americans to the Insurance industry without effective control over the industry which ..continue reading

Obstruction continues by Republicans

I hope the American people are awake and alert to the fact that the Republicans in Congress are not doing the peoples business.

What they are doing is obstructing everything in sight. The obstructionist-in-chief is Tom Cobrun (R-OK) who is following the party’s guidelines to delay health care reform by any means possible, as was gleefully admited by RNC chairman Michael Steele.

Today the obstructionist-in-chief decided to demand that the Senate clerks read the complete Bernie Sanders (I-VT) single payer amendment which is 767 pages long. Sanders requested that the reading be bypassed so that the Senate could move along to a vote. Cobrun would not give in and thus wasted at least 2.5 hours of time.

What this has done is also delay a vote on some other critical items including funding for the military. The self-proclaimed party of patriotism is not supporting our troops.

Sanders withdrew his amendment to avoid further obstruction by Republicans.

The Republican’s answer to jobs and the economy

The Republicans and FOX (aren’t they the same thing?) have the answers for increasing jobs and helping the economy.

Cut the minimum wage and eliminate unemployment benefits.

FOX is pushing the “cut the minimum wage” as a solution to the job problem even though almost every study done on the correlation between minimum wage increases and job loses shows that it has no effect and in fact increasing the minimum wage has expanded jobs in some areas.

Onto the next Republican idea to spur the economy.

Yesterday Michael Steele, RNC chairman appearing on NBC suggested that in order to get banks lending to small businesses the unemployment tax should be cut.

“Well, I think, first off, he should recognize that banks aren’t going to lend money to people who can’t pay them back. … So there’s — there’s this whole cycle of not understanding exactly how the ..continue reading

The 2010 nightmare

Newt Gingrich has introduced us to the nightmare scenario for 2010. Government for the rich, all others be damned.

Gingrich is introducing the new Republican position “Reversion”. The aim is to undo anything that the Democrats pass before the 2010 elections, assuming the Republicans retake control.

thinkprogress reports that yesterday Gingrich said

“If the left manages to drive through a bill which is opposed by 65 percent of the country on health care, our commitment should be simple — when we get a majority, we’re repealing the whole thing.”

“And I want every Democrat who is about to sacrifice their seat for socialized medicine to understand: after you lose your seat, you’re going to lose the socialized medicine too.”

Just in case that is not enough of a wake up call for Republicans Gingrich threw in the Republican fallback position. Scare the hell out of them.

He ..continue reading
