First came Sanford, then Wilson’s outburst and now comes word that Dean Allen, a Republican, is running for adjutant general, a position that includes administering the Army and Air National Guard.
This weekend Allen held a fundraiser titled “machine gun social” and gave away an AK47 semiautomatic rifle. It came with 10 minutes of training.
talkingpointsmemo.com indicated that Allen said ”All of our rights … are predicated on supporting the Second Amendment. That’s what makes America a free country.” Allen also said ”I like to tell people I’m not the country club conservative. I’m the machine gun one.”
One of the posters on that site added the following comment that I find right on the money:

The hypocrisy just continues unabated from the righteous conservatives on the Right.
In the past week we saw both Senator John Ensign (R- Nev) and this week Governor Mark Sandford (R- SC) admit to affairs. The same fine politicians who called on Clinton to resign. The same ones who carry the Family Values torch.
This just continuous a string of hypocrisy including Governor Palin’s daughter, Bristol, getting pregnant while the good Governor preached abstinence to all others.
Time to get all these hypocrites off their pedestal and out of office. They are no better then anyone else and they are only human like everyone else.
The Republicans should stop preaching what they don’t and can’t practice. There are more important things in life to deal with.
The latest in the story of what appears to be a totally unstable Governor Sanford of South Carolina is that he left the country, that is the United States, to go to Buenos Aires, Argentina last week, not to hike the Appalachian trail as reported by his staff.
He stated that he considered hiking the trail but “I wanted to do something exotic. It’s a great city”. He also said that he had not planned to come back until this Thursday but decided to return earlier because his staff informed him that this is becoming a big story.
I say again as I did in my previous post here. The governor needs to be fitted for a straight jacket and the people of South Carolina need to seriously consider impeachment. Leaving the Country , not under duress, without transferring power to the Lieutenant Governor should be considered an impeachable offense.
